Philippines/Las Vegas-based Studio Dreamlords Digital Launches Kickstarter for Graywalkers: Purgatory

In what will prove to be a historic landmark in the Philippine game development industry, Dreamlords Digital has launched the first Kickstarter from a Philippine-based studio. The studio which previously released  Zombie Fields and Zombie Fields Reloaded (iOS/Android) launched the Kickstarter for Graywalkers: Purgatory last October 24th, 2013.

The studio describes Graywalkers as an “emergent Strategic and Tactical Turn-based 3D Role-Playing Game set in a stylish supernatural post-apocalyptic world, where parts of Heaven, Hell and Earth have merged together in an event called “The Rupture”.

Online Communities of Philippine Gamers

The internet has made playing video games a more social and connected experience. In addition to making global multiplayer matches and social/sharing features possible, the internet also enabled us gamers to form online communities and engage in discussions, analysis, and banter, all in the name of video games, the hobby we know and love.

In the Philippines, several online communities consisting of gamers have been formed through-out the years. These digitally connected communities share similarities but also have their unique, defining characteristics. Being a member of these communities myself, I appreciate being able to talk to and connect with people who not only share my interest in video games but also face mostly the same socio-economic and cultural issues and experiences that I do.

In Response to IGN Asia Pacific’s “Overview: Gaming in the Philippines”

IGN Asia Pacific recently published an “overview” article written by Ms. Danielle Ordoñez to describe the gaming scene in the Philippines, and while the picture it painted is pretty accurate as far as PC gaming is concerned, it also presented a narrow and faulty generalization of console gaming in the country. Additionally, other facets of the local gaming scene like arcades, handheld/mobile gaming, the used-games market, and the issue of piracy were left out. This article was written in response to Ms. Ordoñez’s piece and aims to provide a more complete overview of the Philippine gaming scene.

X-Play’s Law firm confirms that X-Play’s NBA 2K13 deal is with EpicSoft and not Take 2

PinoyDVD members Dan (who provided the image ) and jackryan have found a notice to the public statement from X-Play’s law firm in Today’s edition of the Philippine Daily Inquirer. As previously reported, the notice states that X-Play has a “sub-distributorship” agreement with EpicSoft for all versions of NBA 2K13; and Take 2 was not directly involved in the deal.

IP E-Game Venture Inc.’s Quarterly Report: Proof of Local Exclusivity for NBA 2K13?

TPC member harl4444 has uncovered IP E-Game Ventures, Inc.’s quarterly report to shareholders for the period which ended in September 30th, 2012. The report was released via the Philippine Stock Exchange website on November 14th, 2012. According to the said report, Epicsoft Asia is the entity that granted X-Play the exclusive rights to market and distribute the game in Philippine shores.
