The Philippines currently houses more than a few game development studios. Some are homegrown while others are local branches of international companies. Most of the studios in our shores, save for a few who specialize in art outsourcing, work on casual and mobile games. Here’s a look at the more prominent game development studios in the country and the games that they’ve produced.
Anino Games is recognized by many as the first game development studio in the country. The studio is best known for the first videogame created by Filipino developers, Anito: Defend a Land Enraged (released in 2003), a Diablo-style RPG rooted heavily rooted in ancient Philippines. Eventually, the company shifted its focus to developing games for the casual market. During the past several years, Anino has worked on games for the Nintendo DS, PC/Mac, iOs, and the Facebook platform.

Gameloft Philippines is the local branch of the multinational mobile gaming company headquartered in Paris, France. Opened in 2008, Gameloft’s Manila studio is currently the largest development studio in the country with hundreds of employees, including a very large QA department. The studio also employs business/e-commerce, and marketing staff. Gameloft Manila’s focus is to develop/port-games to iOS devices and other mobile environments.

Studio of Secret 6 is an art outsourcing and game development studio. The studio’s main office is located in San Francisco in the US, and the actual production office is in Manila. The most notable game in Secret’s portfolio is last year’s big PS3 exclusive, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. The studio also works on games for iOS and Android.

Similar to Secret 6, Ladyluck is an art outsourcing studio that has worked on very big games for consoles and PCs. In addition to also working with Sony on Uncharted 3, the art studio has delivered art outsourcing services to clients such as Electronic Arts, Activision, Ubisoft, and Sega.
Notable games: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (PS3), Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (PS3), Dance Central 3 (Xbox 360), Medal of Honor: Warfighter (various platforms), Madden NFL 2013 (various platforms)
Specializing in social/mobile games/virtual worlds, Fun Guy Studios has its headquarters in Scottsdale, Arizona, and its development arm in Manila. The studio also develops mobile applications, and offers 2D/3D design and sound engineering services to external clients.
